How to use the Retro Phone Quote Maker

Make an old keypad-phone style motivation picture and set it as your wallpaper. It takes about a minute, it's free, and your text never leaves your phone.

Make your picture

  1. Choose a message in the box at the top, or flip through them with the ‹ › buttons. There are Hinglish and हिंदी messages for BPSC aspirants.
  2. Pick what it's for under “Make it for”: iPhone, Android or iPad wallpaper, or an Instagram post or story.
  3. Tap the phone screen to edit. Type your own message right on the screen, plus an optional centre line and your name as the signature. Tap an icon to add it, or type a code like :fire:. An empty line starts a new paragraph. Tap Done when you're finished.
  4. Customize the look if you like: screen colour, Retro or Simple phone, phone colour, font, text size and the clock.
  5. Tap “Save as wallpaper”. On iPhone and iPad the share menu opens: tap Save Image and it goes to Photos. On Android and computers the picture goes to your Downloads folder.
  6. Tap Share to send it to WhatsApp, Telegram or Instagram. A link to the maker goes with it, so friends can make their own.

Set it as your wallpaper

iPhone

  1. Open Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper.
  2. Tap Photos and choose the picture you saved.
  3. If it looks zoomed in, pinch to fit it, then tap Add.
  4. Tap Set as Wallpaper Pair to use it on both screens.

If the big iOS clock covers your text, open “Customize the look”, tick “Leave space for the lock-screen clock” and save again.

Android

  1. Pick Android under “Make it for” and save the picture. It goes to your Downloads folder.
  2. Open Gallery or Google Photos and open the picture.
  3. Tap ⋮ (the three dots), then Set as wallpaper or Use as → Wallpaper.
  4. Choose Home screen, Lock screen or both.

Menu names differ a little between Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo and other phones.

iPad

  1. Pick iPad under “Make it for” and save the picture.
  2. Open Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper → Photos.
  3. Choose the picture, tap Add, then Set as Wallpaper Pair.

In landscape the iPad trims the sides, so it looks best when you hold the iPad upright.

Instagram

  1. Use Insta post (4:5) for the feed. It fills the post with no cropping.
  2. Use Insta story (9:16) for stories and reel covers.
  3. Put your own name or handle as the signature before you share.

In stories, Instagram puts your name at the top and the reply box at the bottom, so keep key words in the middle.
